Answer to Spiritual Question 3
Eternal life can't be "earned by our good works, or by just being a good person."
It is a gift from God, there is no way we can earn it, or do we deserve it.
...but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23b
A genuine gift is
not earned or deserved; therefore, no amount of personal effort or
"church
work" can earn heaven for us. God offers it only as a gift.
Suppose
you went out and purchsed an expensive gift for a good friend of yours,
and
then when you took it to their house to give it to them,
they went to get
their wallet and tried to give you some money to pay for it,
wouldn't you
be insulted?
It's the same with God, He sent Jesus to buy us eternal life
by His crucifiction,
and then we turn around and try to pay for it by our
good works.
