Receive The Holy Spirit

After I gave my heart to Jesus, I continued going to a prayer group every week and kept learning and reading about the Holy Spirit in the Bible.

I must say that I was very impressed by what the Lord had to say at these meetings, and it created a thirst in me for more of Jesus.

It also created a desire for my own prayer language too.

The Holy Spirit

I began seeking to receive the Holy Spirit. I remember asking Jane how I could receive the Holy Spirit and she said, You pray to receive Him just like you received Jesus. But I didn't pursue this course until about a month later, when somehow I was given a small tract on Praying In Tongues. As I read this little tract, it felt like the jaw line on both sides of my face were tingling, and my mouth opened but nothing came out.

Later that day, I told Jane what happened, and she said if I would have spoken something, then it would have been the prayer language. She said I needed to receive the infilling of the Holy Spirit, and would talk to Mike about praying with me. The next time I was with them, they asked me if they could pray for me, and I was ready.

Receiving the Holy Spirit

Mike stood behind me and put his hands on my shoulders, and Jane held my hands. He then prayed a simple prayer. But first, he asked me if I renounced satan and all his evil works, in which I replied, Yes. And then asked me if I could say, Jesus is Lord. Which I thought strange, but he explained that evils spirits will never say, Jesus is Lord. So I said, Jesus is Lord. I repeated a short prayer at his leading, and then he closed the prayer, and they both began to pray in their own prayer tongue. Then Mike told me to start speaking some syllables without thinking about what I'm saying. Let me tell you that is a hard thing to do. Though I tried, I just couldn't do it. Needless to say, I went home and went to bed a very disappointed person.

Prayer Language

In the middle of the night I woke up, and a strange language was gushing like a waterfall out of my mouth! I found out later it was a River of Living Water. I was amazed and excited. I kept praying those syllables over and over until I fell back asleep. The next morning I tried to make the words come again, but I couldn't remember them, and I couldn't do it. I called Jane and told her what happened and she invited me to another prayer meeting that night.

When we were all praying they laid their hands on me, and I felt that tingly sensation again around my mouth, and the language began pouring out of me again. Everyone was excited and praising God. This was all so new to me and I couldn't believe it was happening. I've been praying in the Spirit ever since, and that was in 1983.

Benefits of Prayer Language

I found out that having my own prayer language or as some people call it, Prayer Tongue, was myhot line to my Heavenly Father, and that the devil couldn't understand or interfere with what I was praying. Even when I didn't know how to pray or what to pray for, the Holy Spirit knows exactly what to pray for. So you actually become a vessel for His use, which was fine with me because I didn't know how to pray anyway.

For example, say there is a soldier in Iraq who was just wounded, and needs prayer to survive. How would we know that? We wouldn't. But the Holy Spirit knows, and He will use you to pray for the soldier's survival.
Or here's another example. Suppose a cancer cell is trying to form in your body. How would you know that? You wouldn't, until it grew enough. But the Holy Spirit knows all things, and if you pray in the spirit, that teeny tiny microscopic cancer cell, will be put in check, and reverse it's growth.

Final Note

The thing is, after you speak your first words of your own prayer tongue, the thought runs through your mind that it's not real, that you're just making up this jibberish. But it is real, and don't let the devil (who works through your mind) tell you it is not, because he doesn't want you to receive it, and he will lie, lie, lie to you, to keep you from receiving it.
